Title: What Comes Next? The Future of the Health Information Workforce

Description: Change is uncomfortable, but healthcare-related professionals are well adapted to ongoing evolution within their roles. There have been incredible advancements in medicine and technology over the past century, including the ongoing adoption of AI technology. All the while, the health information profession has adapted to these advancements. How we understand the profession today is unlikely to persist into the future. By examining the history and development of the health information profession, with a review of past and current workforce trends, we will provide recommendations for health information professionals considering their career path and hiring professionals looking to meet growing needs. Using workforce data from job postings and employer surveys, the presenters will illustrate what the future health information workforce will look like. Presenters will describe how organizations, educational institutions and professional organizations can develop experiential learning opportunities to help meet developing workforce needs through the upskilling of current and emerging professionals.
