Title: Training the Next Generation of Nursing Leaders Using Augmented Reality

Description: The integration of augmented reality (AR) and other types of extended reality (XR) technology into healthcare training has ushered in transformative outcomes, revolutionizing clinical education, enhancing patient care, and helping hospitals manage costs during these turbulent times. The application of AR, particularly in code cart training, has emerged as a pivotal solution. Addressing the challenges of dynamic stakeholder requirements, technical intricacies and seamless integration, the AR code cart application has successfully streamlined workflows and augmented training experiences. This feasibility study at Brigham and Women's Hospital illustrates the potential of AR in code cart training, especially for new nurses. Through collaboration with clinical, training and IT colleagues, the AR application was developed and deployed within six months. The impact has been profound: clinical staff reported heightened satisfaction, shortened training periods and a reduction in email-related queries. Clinical educators experienced a paradigm shift, as the AR application streamlined their preparation process and invigorated learning environments. Given the study's findings have been resoundingly positive, the success of this endeavor paves the way for expanded utilization, with the promise of refining and amplifying AR's capabilities for broader healthcare scenarios.
