Title:
mHealth Intervention Promotes Boluses in Teens With Type 1 Diabetes
Description:
Teens with type 1 diabetes (T1D) miss mealtime insulin boluses (Bolus), contributing to higher glucose values. We show proof of concept that our novel mHealth intervention promotes Bolus in teens. 7 teens with T1D completed a 12-week mHealth intervention that included remote monitoring via a digital dashboard. Outcomes were teen’s Bolus and continuous glucose monitor (CGM) metrics pre and post-treatment. Teens were [mean±SD]
13.7±.76 years old, 4 boys and 3 girls. All used CGM, and 6 used a hybrid closed-loop pump. Bolus increased from 1.6±1 to 2.3±.5 (p=.056) pre to post-treatment. Mean CGM time in range increased from 58±24% to 62±9% pre to post-treatment. We show proof of concept this mHealth intervention increases teens’ Bolus scores.
Learning Objective #1:
Define Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and explain the importance of mealtime insulin boluses in teens with T1D
Learning Objective #2:
Describe the mHealth intervention and how it promotes mealtime insulin boluses
Learning Objective #3:
Discuss proof of concept outcomes and benefits
