Title: Implemented Dashboard for Screening Cardiac Amyloidosis in African American Veterans

Description: The prevalence and incidence of transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM) has been increasing within the VA population over the last 10 years. Although African American (AA) men of older age are disproportionally affected by this disease, it continues to be underdiagnosed. We describe the development of an ATTR-CM dashboard that identifies heart failure (HF) patients requiring additional screening to facilitate the early diagnosis of ATTR-CM. This interactive dashboard will help clinicians improve quality by creating a systematic approach to screening for ATTR-CM in AA Veterans with HF, reducing the gap in diagnosis. Findings from this initiative could inform quality improvement efforts in other health systems and populations.

Level: Intermediate

Learning Objective #1: Recognize patients at risk for cardiac amyloidosis within the Veteran Affairs system without specific provider bias

Learning Objective #2: Understand what risk scores for cardiac amyloidosis mean and how to go about additional screening in a systematic and objective manner

Learning Objective #3: Apply the concepts learned and identify red-flag features of cardiac amyloidosis to make an accurate assessment of a patient's need for additional screening

Learning Objective #4: Create an interactive dashboard that allows clinicians to quickly and effectively identify patients requiring additional screening for cardiac amyloidosis and track their progress using a write-back feature
